What Happens at Hearing Aid Assessment Appointments?
At HHP, our initial appointments normally take between 90 mins and 2 hours:
- We begin by listening to the client’s story. It’s also an opportunity for us to address any concerns they may have. Clients are asked to complete a questionnaire before they attend the appointment and we go through the answers together explaining things as we go.
- The client’s ears are then examined using a video camera, so we can see inside the ear. It’s important that ears are not blocked with wax as this could affect the accuracy of our tests. This procedure is completely safe and painless. If there is too much wax, we may have to refer clients back to their GP but we do have access to a local micro suction clinic and can refer on for immediate attention.
- A test is then carried out to see if the middle ear is working normally – this is a quick automatic, non evasive scan.
- A complete hearing assessment follows in a spacious air conditioned sound proofed booth which, as you would expect is, again, utterly safe and painless.
- Depending on the outcome of these tests we may suggest further evaluations so that we can identify the cause of the difficulty and set some realistic expectations on benefit.
- At the end of the test, we will fully explain and discuss the outcome as it’s important that clients appreciate why they hear the way they do.
- If the use of hearing aids could be beneficial, we will discuss the varying types and advise on the best possible solution for the individual. We take into account hearing loss, lifestyle and any personal preferences.
- We will provide a detailed report with a quotation to dispense the selected hearing instruments outlining our fully inclusive services. The report will be posted or emailed. We believe that clients and their family should consider our recommendations carefully in their own time.
- If required, we will take impressions of the ears which are electronically scanned and then modeled on a computer.
- On acceptance of our recommendation, hearing aids can be ready in a week.
- The fitting appointment lasts around an hour when we will professionally tune the hearing aids. We take great care to make sure that each client can easily handle their new hearing aids before they leave.
- We arrange convenient follow up appointments to ensure the client is happy.
- All clients have peace of mind of a 45 day assessment period with the hearing aids. If they’re not satisfied in any way we can try alternative products or provide a refund.
